New Ownership, Same Neighborhood Roots
For years, the coin laundry at 5937 Old Central Ave, just off our Location page's directions, operated as Forest 24 Hour Laundromat, a familiar stop for Capitol Heights families running a load between errands. In January 2026, Mike Kang and his wife took over the property with a simple goal in mind: keep what neighbors relied on, a nearby place to do laundry, while rebuilding almost everything else. Since then, the space has been reequipped with the high-efficiency Speed Queen washers and dryers featured on our Self-Service Laundry page, refreshed from floor to ceiling, and given a new name to match the fresh start: Washed Anew Laundry.
New Hours, New Payment Options, and Giving Back
The ownership is still local, and still hands-on, as you can read more about on our About Us page. Mike brings 35 years of experience as a software engineer into this new chapter and now runs the laundromat with his wife and support from their family. Hours shifted from round-the-clock to 6:00 AM until midnight, with a fully attended floor every hour the doors are open, and hybrid payment now includes coin, the LaundroWorks card, and the Laundry Cat app alongside a full drop-off Wash & Fold menu (or fluff and fold, if that's what you grew up calling it). Programs like the $2 card loading bonus and Wednesday free dry time, both detailed on our Pricing page, have already returned more than $10,000 in savings to Capitol Heights households, with more community give-back planned as Washed Anew Laundry settles into its new name.
